How the calculator works
The maths behind a crypto trade is straightforward, and this tool just does it for you. First it works out how many coins your money bought: your amount invested divided by the buy price. Then it multiplies those coins by your sell price to get the value when you sell. Any fee percentage you enter is subtracted from that value. Finally it compares the result with what you originally put in to show your profit or loss and your return.
- Coins bought = amount invested ÷ buy price
- Value at sell = coins bought × sell price, minus fees
- Profit / loss = value at sell − amount invested
- Return = profit ÷ amount invested, shown as a percentage
A worked example
Say you invested $1,000 when Bitcoin was $20,000, and you sold when it reached $30,000. Your $1,000 bought 0.05 BTC. At $30,000 that 0.05 BTC is worth $1,500. Your profit is $500, which is a 50% return. Adjust any of the boxes above and the numbers update instantly.
What this calculator does not include
To keep it simple and honest, a few real-world costs are left out unless you add them yourself:
- Tax. Profits from selling crypto are often taxable. In Australia, for example, crypto is generally treated as an asset for capital gains tax. Our crypto tax guide for Australia explains the basics.
- Network and spread costs. Beyond the trading fee, exchanges can build a margin into the price, and moving coins on-chain costs a network fee. Put your best estimate in the fees box to account for these.
- Multiple buys. The calculator assumes one buy price. If you bought in several times, use your average price.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate crypto profit?
Divide the amount you invested by your buy price to get the number of coins, multiply those coins by your sell price to get the value at sale, subtract any fees, then subtract your original investment. The result is your profit or loss. This calculator does all of that automatically.
Does the calculator include fees?
Only if you enter them. Put your total fees as a percentage in the fees box and they will be subtracted from the value at sale. Leave it at 0 to see the result before fees.
Is my data saved?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere, and there is no sign-up.
Does this account for tax?
No. It shows your raw trading profit before any tax. Crypto gains are often taxable depending on where you live, so treat the result as pre-tax.
